The Non-Profit MIND Institute Announces New Name and Expansion
in New Space in Santa Ana

Move Follows Dramatic Growth in Education Programs

SANTA ANA, CA, Aug. 14, 2007 - The non-profit education researcher and software developer MIND Institute announced a name change to “MIND Research Institute.”The change reflects MIND Research Institute’s active role in both cutting-edge education program research and development, and in basic scientific research into mathematics, brain function, and how students learn. MIND Research has experienced dramatic growth, expanding its ST Math™ educational software programs to more than 250 elementary schools in a dozen states, and launching a complex Data Driven Education research project. As a result of its success, MIND Research moved its headquarters today from Costa Mesa, to a space double in size in nearby Santa Ana, Calif.

MIND Research Institute has invested over a decade of research, development, and real-world implementation into interactive computerized math lessons for students in grades K to 8. MIND Research’s ST Math™ product family includes the ST Math+Music™ program for elementary schools and the ST Math™ software suites for grades K to 8 including recently released "Algebra Readiness”for middle schools. The products develop a balance of mathematical-reasoning, procedural-skills development, and problem-solving abilities through a unique visual approach. MIND Research Institute’s research studies have consistently shown a significant benefit to students at all academic performance levels, and increases of 20 percent or more in the number ofST Math Algebra Readiness students scoring proficient and above on standardized tests. The programs were developed by MIND Research Co-Founder and Senior Scientist, Dr. Matthew Peterson.

The MIND Institute is a community-based non-profit research organization formed in 1998 and based in Costa Mesa, CA. It is dedicated to brain research and to preparing students in grades K-12, regardless of cultural or socio-economic background, for success in school, work and society. MIND has successfully integrated more than 30 years of breakthrough academic research on the brain at the University of California, Irvine, into applied math education programs for elementary school students. Student test results at schools that use MIND’s ST Math+Music program have increased consistently every year. There are currently more than 200 elementary schools in California, Illinois, Louisiana, Texas and eight other states and over 40,000 students in grades K to 5 participating in MIND’s ST Math+Music program.
