Neuroscience research involves studying the fundamental principles of brain function from the biophysical to the systems level. Active areas of research and collaboration at the MIND Research Institute focus on cognitive neuroscience and computational neuroscience. Core cognitive neuroscientific research areas include learning and memory, neuropathologies, language, and brain imaging studies. Another unique and strong area of research includes using music as a window into higher brain function—the study of the brain's response to music, and how music can act as a stimulus for elucidating the activity of the neural networks and mechanisms involved in cognitive function. Computational neuroscience research applies mathematics, physics, computer science and analysis towards understanding the principles of neural networks, building models of brain function and the analysis of neurophysiological data. The MIND Research Institute’s current research focuses in computational neuroscience include the generation of computer simulations and mathematical models of working memory, language and other higher brain function. |
